ABOUT SMBCA

Inspiring Change

Started by a dedicated group of local residents in the Spring of 2021, SMBCA has grown into an impactful Community Movement. We emphasise transparency in everything we do, setting bold goals and pursuing a clear strategy that seeks to improve our local environment and conservation area. We are constantly growing and adapting to the changes of society, and invite you to learn more about how you can make an impact.

TERMS OF REFERENCE

The SMBCA is guided to preserve and protect the intrinsic character of the St. Margaret’s Bay Conservation Area. The Bay has a fascinating history and resides within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Whilst the Conservation Area contains only one listed building, the spaces between buildings, and the landscape between, are factors that gives the Bay its special significance.

CHARACTER APPRAISAL

The first task of the SMBCA was to facilitate the commissioning of a Character Appraisal. The purpose was to identify the significance of the heritage assets and define the character of the Conservation Area.

It aims to increase public awareness and involvement in the preservation of the

Area and provide a framework for planning decisions, to guide positive change and regeneration.

MEMBERSHIP

The Association’s Management Committee reflects a cross-section of local people to ensure a diversity of interests and objectives. All SMBCA members live in the Bay Conservation Area.
